Baltimore - Aberdeen round trip - 5 -

Baltimore - Aberdeen round trip (1/2/3/4/5) :

A segment of US Route 40 (also known as the Main Street of America, is an east–west United States Highway. US 40 once traversed the entire United States. It is one of the first U.S. Highways created in 1926), 28 miles at most, runs along Baltimore's Chesapeake Bay to Aberdeen, a little further north.

Here, there is no old-growth forest along the way and those that can be seen have been crushed several times. On each side of the 4-lane road, dozens of motels, car body shops, barber shops, gas stations and other ugly stuff so nicely portrayed in Baudrillard's essay “America” (Baudrillard, sors-moi de ce cauchemar!) Little houses too, lost in this chaos. Buildings are mostly horizontal and it’s probably hard for someone to kill himself falling over from the 2nd floor. Potholes and crazy driving are more to be feared.

No dazzling here and it's the absolute boredom that forces me to look for a little poetry in what I see. Taking a few pictures at each red traffic lights with an over-age phone is a great help. My point of view doesn’t change, that of the driver, hands on the steering wheel. Sometimes I open the window, sometimes I don’t. The more photos I take, the more interesting the road landscape is. Sometime, a shape, some colors or texture amazes me. Photographing people, even those who are walled up in their car would please me more, but a shot is quickly gone and no one really wants to be a target.

Here are some pictures from my journey, nothing really relevant, but we do with what we have!
